I love vanilla ice cream and vanilla frozen yogurt. Vanilla may be considered “plain,” but not only do I love the flavor on its own, but it goes with so many other things. This frozen yogurt goes with so many things. You can top with fruit, homemade sauce, or top a cake or a pie.
Why Use a Ninja Creami?
I have used many different methods for making Specific Carbohydrate Diet frozen desserts and Ninja Creami is my favorite. I find it easier to make the small batches than to make one big batch in a regular ice cream maker. I can make different flavors and use them up quickly.
However, my favorite thing about the Ninja Creami is the texture of the frozen yogurt, coconut milk, and sorbets I have made. They are the most regular ice-cream like I have ever made.
Do I have to use a Ninja Creami to make this recipe?
But, if you don’t have a Creami you can easily make this in a regular ice cream maker. You just don’t need to freeze for 24 hours before churning.
What do I need to make Tart Vanilla Frozen Yogurt?
This frozen yogurt only has three ingredients! You will just need these simple ingredients and your ice cream maker.
- Plain SCD Yogurt
- Pure Vanilla Extract
- Honey
- Ninja Creami (or other ice cream maker)
What Yogurt is Best to Make Frozen Yogurt?
I typically make my frozen yogurt using yogurt made from whole milk yogurt. Higher fat yogurt makes for creamier frozen yogurt. Yogurt made with half & half is also great for frrozen yogurt. I like to use a mixture of whole milk yogurt and half & half yogurt if I have both. That is what I did in this recipe. You can also use a little yogurt made with heavy cream, however sometimes the churning or Creami process will turn it to butter and create a less desirable texture. If you do use heavy cream yogurt, use a small amount and whisk it well with your other other yogurt.
My Ninja Creami ice cream is crumbly, what do I do?
It’s common for the first spin in a Ninja Creami to come out crubmly, particular with the SCD ingredients we use. Causes of crumbly frozen yogurt or ice cream is that there is not enough fat and sugar in it. That is why “alternative” ice creams may be more crumbly.
Another cause that it is too cold when it is spun. Warming it up on the counter for 15 minutes before spinning may help.
The good news is if your frozen yogurt is crumbly it’s easy to fix! Just add a tablespoon of liquid like almond milk, coconut milk, or a little yogurt, put back in the machine and hit the Re-Spin button. See my video below for a demonstration of this.
Give it a try and be sure to give it five stars if you like it!
