I made this in the slow cooker, but you could also do it on the stove.
4 apples (I used 1 Granny Smith, 1 Fuji, and 2 Golden Delicious)
1/2 cup apple cider
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp ginger
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tbsp lemon juice
Peel and chop apples. Combine with lemon juice in the slow cooker. Add apple cider and spices. Cook on the high setting for a couple of hours until apples have turned to a thick sauce. You can either remove it or turn it to low and let it cook until you are ready to use it. My slow cooker has an “auto” setting, which cooks on high for two hours, then automatically switches to low.
If cooking on the stove – bring ingredients to a boil, reduce heat and cover. Cook for 15 – 20 minutes until apples are very soft. If necessary use a potato masher to finish the sauce.
Allow to cool before serving.
