In October of 2000 I began the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. The year before I had had surgery for Crohn’s and my desire was to remain symptom free. I am happy to say that ten years later I am still symptom and medication free.
In the ten years since starting the diet I have had my ups and downs with loving the diet and at times hating it. That’s what prompted me to start this blog. I know of a lot of people who have started the diet only to become frustrated and confused with the process. The big question for many is how long to stay on the diet?
I don’t have a definitive answer to that question, and likely a definitive answer does not exist. Very little, if any, real medical research has been done on the value of the diet. For some people the diet helps relieve symptoms and for some it doesn’t. There is no cure for Crohn’s Disease, and I am making no claims about this diet other than my own personal experiences.
I know reading other people’s experiences with the diet was helpful to me when I first began, and even over the years, so my hope is to add my two cents to the SCD experience.
Stay tuned…I have a lot more to write about!
