A little while back I wrote about The Specific Carbohydrate Diet Association, its founder Jeffrey Berger, and the upcoming SCDROCKS coference. I’m happy to share more information about this important conference.
Specific Carbohydrate Diet™ (SCD) was first brought to the masses in “Breaking the Vicious Cycle” by Elaine Gottschall in 1994. Gottschall, a biochemist, advanced the work of Dr. Sidney V. Haas who created the SCD™ in 1924. Advancing the research and promoting the benefits of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet became Gottschall’s lifelong passion, now being carried forward by the Specific Carbohydrate Diet Association, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
The SCDROCKS Conference will take place at Bristol Community College, 777 Elsbree Street, Fall River, Massachusetts on Saturday, September 14 and Sunday, September 15, 2019 with a pre-conference gathering on Friday, September 13, 2019. In addition, the Specific Carbohydrate Diet Association will host its first fundraiser on Saturday, September 14 at 6 pm featuring dinner and “True Story Theatre.”
The Conference provides an opportunity for us to unite as an SCD™ community and to learn from others committed to carrying on both the practice and study of the science behind the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Among us, as featured speakers, are internationally-recognized medical practitioners and researchers. We are truly honored to have as Keynote Speakers, Dr. Benjamin Gold (Attending Physician, Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, Children’s Center for Digestive Health Care, LLC; GI Care for Kids, LLC, President-elect, North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN) and Dr. Eric A. Vasiliauskas (Associate Clinical Director, Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at Cedars-Sinai , Associate Professor, Medicine & Pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and member of F. Widjaja Foundation Inflammatory Bowel and Immunobiology Research Institute).
The Conference is privileged to have internationally-recognized authors Erica Kerwien of ComfyBelly.com, Raman Prasad of scdrecipe.com and Tucker Sweeney, who will share their personal journeys. In addition, Dr. Ali Arjomand (PhD Nutrition, UC Davis) shares his uncovered key scientific insights explaining how SCD halts disease progression and elicits deep remission. And lastly, Judy Herod, whose journey to wellness inspired her mother, the late Elaine Gottschall to research the Specific Carbohydrate Diet and write the book, “Breaking the Vicious Cycle”. This weekend, you will have an opportunity to attend over 10 sessions addressing gut microbiome, food as medicine, complementary therapies for IBD, recipe development and much more. Companies that offer SCD products and services are in attendance, and we are excited to provide SCD food catered by Duke’s Bakery.
