If you are not familiar with Casey Abrams – he was a contestant on season 10 (2011) of American Idol.Casey has ulcerative colitis. He dealt with some pretty severe symptoms while appearing on the show.
Casey has been working with IBD Icons to raise money for IBD research. For every person who registers on that site one dollar will go to CCFA.
He has also just released a new album.
Last week I spoke with him about his music and about dealing with UC, and how it was trying to perform on Idol while going through a flareup.

What was it like trying to go out on stage while dealing with your illness?
It sucked. It really sucked, but it was a dream I had to be on the stage with millions of people watching. I couldn’t let it push me over at that moment in time. It was really hard. Harder than I think I had even imagined. I got over it though. I’m healthy today so that is what’s important. It’s an embarrassing thing to talk about, but I think it needs to be talked about. It was hard even to talk to the doctor about what was going on, but it has to be said.

oh my gosh, i had no idea that he had UC! I have UC too. it’s always so inspiring to see people not letting their disease control their dreams!
