Anyone who’s been following The Specific Carbohydrate Diet at all knows how difficult it is to find a snack when you’re on the run. Pre-packaged foods are SCD-legal are hard to find and it’s not always easy to know if they are truly ok or not.
I try to make as much of my own food as I can, but I work full time and I travel fairly often. I just can’t always make everything and I don’t find my homemade food to be all that portable – it usually needs refrigeration or is too delicate to throw in my bag (or both).
That is why I was so excited to dicover Freedom Bars. They sent me one of their sample packs so I could see for myself how great they are. Saul, the found of Freedom Bars, has IBD and created these bars he and fellow IBDers could have a safe snack with healthy ingredients.
Three of the flavors of Freedom Bars are SCD-compliant – Peanut Butter, Raisin Almond, and Apple Cinnamon. The fourth flavor Chocolate Cocoa isn’t SCD, but cocoa is the only non-SCD ingredient. It’s perfect for those that have added cocoa back to their diet – cocoa is something I have added to mine (when I eat a non-SCD food I try to limit it to one non-SCD ingredient, which is why I really like these bars). If you don’t eat cocoa, the other flavors are just as good.
I loved all of the flavors. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I think it may be the raisin almond. Prior to SCD, I probably wouldn’t have picked a raisin thing as a favorite, but now I love the slightly sweet taste raisins add, along with the soft, plump texture.
You can order Freedom Bars directly from their site and at other select online retailers.
